Headache and Stress Tea
Dec. 9th, 2006 03:09 pmRosemary contains a compound called rosmaricine that
seems to relieve headaches the same was aspirin does, but without
irritating
the stomach. Rosmaricine also creates what researchers call "smooth
muscle
activity," which means it can smooth and soothe the digestive system.
Some researchers attribute the stress-subduing
properties of rosemary to its calcium content, a mineral that's known
to
calm the nerves. One tablespoon of dried rosemary contains about 42
mg of
calcium, & according to some herbalists, rosemary's calcium is easily
absorbed by the body. To make rosemary tea:
2 tablespoons (packed) fresh rosemary, or 1 tablespoon dried
1 cup just-boiled water
Toss the rosemary into a sturdy mug & pound it
lightly with a spoon to release the aroma. Pour on the water & steep,
covered, for 4 minutes. Then strain & sip warm. The taste is strong
and
piny, so you may want to add a twist of lemon, pinch of ground
cardamom,
or
a swirl of honey.
