So I get this grand idea to make some homemade trail mix. A bit of a healthier snack for a gaming tourament my husband, myself, and a few of our friends are participating in. They'll have junk food, but I'm pregnant and don't want to eat chips, french fries, etc. I won't have a cooler so what we bring with us is limited. Here's what I bought:

granola
raisins
dried cranberries
dried dates
m'n'm candies
maple syrup

I think I can use the granola and stir in some maple syrup, bake it to make clusters. I'll let it cool and then I'll stir in the other ingredients and portion it out into baggies. My question is this: How long to I bake it for and at what temp? I'm thinking 350 or 375 for 30 minutes?

I think that trying it at 350 for 30 minutes is a fairly safe bet. I'd watch it though, at least the first time through ... that way you can rescue it easily or leave it in longer if you want it toastier.

Let us know how it turns out. :)

You want to cook granola very slow and watch it closely or it will burn. Since the granola is already done and you are just trying to dry the syrup to make clusters, 250 degrees for 30 minutes should be good. You probably want to stir it halfway through, though, to get it cooked evenly.

Alton Brown from Food Network as a good granola recipe at http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_17135,00.html?rsrc=search

I agree. :) Better to have a low temp and cook a little longer than risk it burning. Helps the M&Ms withstand the heat a little better, too!
